Strategic Cycling Corridor campaign
Whittlesea BUG has combined with other cycling groups and organisations to lobby for development of Strategic Cycling Corridors. Within City of Whittlesea, we are focusing on the following corridors:
- Mernda to Whittlesea
- Donnybrook Road
- High Street, Thomastown

Mernda to Whittlesea Rail Trail
A proposed shared use path between Mernda and Whittlesea, designed for walkers, cyclists, and horse riders, promises to do more than connect communities — it could become a powerful boost for the local economy.
Stretching along the scenic Plenty Road corridor, the path would link suburban Mernda to the rural charm of Whittlesea and beyond, creating new opportunities for local businesses, tourism, and recreation providers.

Donnybrook Road Shared Use Path
As Melbourne’s northern growth corridor continues to expand, Donnybrook Road has become a vital east–west link connecting established suburbs, emerging communities, and key regional destinations.
Building a shared user path (SUP) between Merri Creek and Epping Road would provide a safe, continuous, and sustainable transport route for cyclists, pedestrians, and other active users — linking new neighbourhoods with public transport, schools, parks, and local businesses.

High Street, Thomastown
- Connects four train stations on the Mernda line (Keon Park, Thomastown, Lalor, Epping)
- Links over 30 community destinations (schools, shops, parks, hospitals)
- Supports local businesses with increased visitation and visibility
